Class Description:

It is easy to improve your photography by understanding photographic composition. How we compose a photo is important, but what are some of the guidelines that photographers use? This will be a two-session course that will introduce you to the “Art of Seeing” and provide an introduction/review to basic photographic composition principles.

The first session will be the “class time”, followed by a question/answer session and assignments will be explained.  The second session will be a review/critique of images shot for the class assignments.

Part 1 presented on December 7th will be a PowerPoint Presentation on Photographic Composition/Art of Seeing

Assignments Due – Monday, December 13th (noon)

Part 2 presented on December 17th will be a Critique/Review of images.

 

Dale’s Background  – Dale has a Master’s Degree in Journalism with an emphasis in photojournalism and photographic composition from the University of Wyoming. He has taught six different courses in photography at universities in California, Kansas, Utah, Nevada and Arizona. He and several of his Kansas photo students did a photo documentary of Victorian Architecture in Eureka Springs, Arkansas which culminated in a 186-print exhibit during the annual winter homes tour in the town and also a photo documentary on PBS.  His work has been published nationally and regionally in magazines and newspapers; in national park service publications and websites; in corporate annual reports; and in a yearly report on National Parks submitted to the President of the United States.  Additionally, he coordinated photographic coverage in Southern Nevada as photography editor for Stephens Media and their 12 weekly publications as well as photographing for the Las Vegas Review Journal (daily). He has conducted photography workshops and programs in National Parks in Arkansas, Nevada, Arizona, Utah and New Mexico where he worked as an Interpretative and Natural Resources Ranger.
